LUNCH DANCES

After a sold out run, Lunch Dances, a NYTimes 2025 Critic’s Pick, is back!

It's your lunch hour. Step away from your desk and into the working world of the library. The collaborative team of Monica Bill Barnes and Robbie Saenz de Viteri have taken their motto of "bringing dance where it doesn't belong" to heart and created a show in the least likely of places, the New York Public Library.  Audiences wear headphones for the hour-long performance, tuning them into the personal stories and meaningful movements that may dwell in any corner of the collections. Wear good shoes, it's time to go for a walk, then back to work.

“The experiential art the company produces creates an intimacy that has the potential to pulverize your insides.” - NYTimes

Special Thanks

LIVE from NYPL is made possible by the continuing generosity of Celeste Bartos, Mahnaz Ispahani Bartos and Adam Bartos, the Margaret and Herman Sokol Public Education Endowment Fund, and the support of Library patrons and friends.

Additional support for Lunch Dances is provided by Morwin Schmookler.

We are grateful to dance educator and advocate Jody Gottfried Arnhold for her visionary commitment to making dance and dance education accessible to all. The remount of the widely celebrated Lunch Dances by Monica Bill Barnes & Company at the New York Public Library would not be possible without the generous support of Jody and John Arnhold and the Arnhold Foundation.

Monica Bill Barnes & Company gratefully acknowledges the following funders and contributors: New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, Howard Gilman Foundation, Mertz Gilmore Foundation, SHS Foundation, Harkness Foundation for Dance, Bossak/Heilbron Charitable Foundation, public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, Jody and John Arnhold | Arnhold Foundation, and Barbara Rohdie.
